As our world continually becomes more complex, our senses are bombarded from all directions. This has caused the brain to maladapt creating Busy Brain Syndrome (BBS). BBS is simply the brain running out of processing bandwidth. It presents as lack of awareness and ability to focus and pay attention is greatly reduced. People are overloaded, overwhelmed and increasingly on ‘autopilot’.
BBS manifests as relentless ‘self-talk’ or ‘monkey mind’, feelings of stress and overwhelm, never getting things done, rampant political correctness because no one wants to be ‘seen to be out of control’. BBS is not digital intrusion – it is the resulting brain change from overload of sensory bombardment.
BBS causes people to unconsciously do what they know they ‘should not’ be doing, and is the root cause of human factor safety breaches, cyber security breaches, poor behaviours, silo mentality, mis-communication, avoidance behaviours and decision paralysis, that are rampant in the modern world both at work and outside work.
